摘要:Kazuo Ishiguro(1954-),known as the Nobel Laureate in 2017,is a distinguished contemporary Japanese-British writer.As Ishiguro’s third novel,The Remains of the Day was awarded The Man Booker Prize for Fiction in 1989 and soon adapted into an award-winning film in 1993.The protagonist Stevens,who is a traditional British butler in the novel,narrates what has happened during the sixday journey and recalls his early life in the form of diary.Quantities of discussions and researches have been made since its publication in 1989.This essay intends to analyze the professionalism,the core of Stevens’values that overwhelms his other principles briefly,using the methods of text analysis and literature analysis.It is founded that the pursuit of his distorted professionalism makes him become a working machine.We can learn the importance of dealing with ethical value and ethical identity from Steven’s personal tragedy.
